INDIGENOUS HISTORY IN CANADA
THIS WORKSHOP FOCUSES ON HISTORIC & CURRENT DISCRIMINATORY PRACTICES IMPOSED ON INDIGENOUS PEOPLES IN CANADA. PARTICIPANTS WILL RECEIVE IN-DEPTH PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AROUND LEGISLATED DISCRIMINATION, LAWS, PRACTICES & RESTRICTIONS PLACED ON INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES & FAMILIES, BOTH LOCALLY & NATIONALLY.
THIS WORKSHOP IS DESIGNED FOR ORGANIZATIONS TO PLAN AROUND THE 94 CALLS TO ACTION, WHILE RECOGNIZING THE COMPLICATED HISTORY OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES WITHIN CANADA. UNDERSTANDING THE TRUTH & RECONCILIATION COMMISSION'S CALLS TO ACTION IS VITAL FOR YOUR TEAM TO MOVE FORWARD IN A POSITIVE MANNER WHILE COMMITTING TO RESPONSIBLE & ACCOUNTABLE ACTIONS THAT BENEFIT YOU, YOUR WORKPLACE & YOUR COMMUNITY.

THE TREATIES HAVE LONG BEEN MISUNDERSTOOD AGREEMENTS BETWEEN INDIGENOUS PEOPLES & CANADA. IT CAN BE DIFFICULT TO CONNECT OUR OWN PERSONAL VALUES TO A HISTORY THAT SEEMS SO LONG AGO. THE FACT IS, TREATIES ARE NOT ANCIENT HISTORY & ARE EXTREMELY RELEVANT TO UNDERSTANDING & REPAIRING CANADIAN RELATIONSHIPS & RECONCILIATION. THIS WORKSHOP WILL PROVIDE A PERSONAL UNDERSTANDING OF TREATIES, WHILE CONNECTING IT TO A LOCAL HISTORY.
